Depression and anxiety are worldwide epidemics and can arise from a wide variety of sources. Often times depression and anxiety serve to signal us that we have lost a healthy balance in our lives or that there is some underlying unprocessed dysfunction that requires our conscious reflection. In my work with clients, I conduct thorough assessments in order to determine the source of anxiety and depression, and identify and treat the underlying issues that impede on healthy functioning. Whether symptoms are catalyzed by a traumatic event, a difficult life transition, unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaving, or an organic underlying disorder, I will help you get to the core of the issue, and will gently guide you through the development and implementation of idiosyncratic, strengths-based strategies to achieve stability and an overarching sense of well-being.
Initially observed in veterans coming home from war, trauma can be defined as an experience of extreme stress or pain, and can create devastating and life-altering effects for those who are directly inflicted as well as their loved ones. Research on trauma has come a long way in uncovering it's widespread prevalence, as well as the scope of it's destructive path. In many instances, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, anti-social behavior, and an array of other issues are ripple effects, stemming from an earlier unprocessed traumatic event or series of events. In my work with you, I will offer a supportive environment to explore and work through past traumas, utilizing empirically tested approaches including EMDR, prolonged exposure, and trauma-focused CBT so that we can get to the root of the traumatic experience(s) that are contributing to your current presenting issues.
We often demand things from our significant other that we don't demand from others in our lives such as coworkers and friends. We want our partners to provide consistency, safety and reliability, and yet maintain the unpredictability and excitement that attracted us to him/her in the first place. The initial attraction that we feel towards a partner tends to wax and wane over time, and eventually the initial "spark" seems to die. Is it possible to keep that spark alive? Through changes in behavior and communication, it is possible to re-ignite the initial spark while maintaining the comfort and predictability that we've grown to love in our significant other. I will work with you and your partner in order foster open and honest communication that can get lost through the mundane responsibilities of daily life, and will help you to see your partner with fresh eyes of desire while strengthening the familiarity, comfort, and trust that are the foundation of any healthy and lasting relationship.
